William R. Verheyen
Age 95 passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at Wyngate Senior Living Community in Lima, Ohio. William was born on April 4, 1923, in Tiffin, Ohio, to the late William J. and Ethel (West) Verheyen. March 20, 1943, he married Edna Hammonds, who preceded him in death. William graduated from Canton McKinley High School. He served as a pilot in the US Air Force during World War II and retired from the Air Force with rank of Major after 24 years. He retired from American Electric Power in 1988 after 42 years. He was a member of Hump Pilots Association, Inc., the Elks Lodge, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the VFW, and the American Legion.
He is survived by a daughter, Karen (Gary) Kirsch; two sons, William R. (Roseann) Verheyen, Jr. and Jeffery (Christine) Verheyen; seven grandchildren; two step grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren and a brother, Robert (Marie) Verheyen. He was preceded in death by a great grandson, Kameron Clark. The family will receive friends Tuesday 5-8pm in Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00am Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Fr. Benson Okpara as celebrant.
