William D. Shaheen
William D. Shaheen, age 84 of Canton, passed away Saturday, July 2, 2005. Born August 25, 1920, he lived his entire life along with many family members on the original farm property owned by his parents in Canton Township. He was a 1938 graduate of Canton Township High School where he was class president and active in speech and debate. He along with his two brothers owned and operated the Bolivar Road Variety Store and Southland Roller Rink. During World War II he served as Sergeant in the Army Air Corp where he flew 30 missions over Italy and North Africa. Preceded in death by his parents, Joseph D. and Julia Shaheen; three sisters, Mary Koury, Anna Tanoos and Rose Shaheen; one brother, Samuel D. Shaheen and one son-in-law, Peter Tinus. Survived by his wife of 50 years, Norma "Nonie" Shaheen; two daughters, Kathleen Seroteck and Sheila Tinus; three grandchildren, Sherry (Jerry) Prestier, Renee Rogers and Mike Tinus; six great-grandchildren; Jerry, Josh, Joe and Jamie Prestier, Marissa and Alyssa Rogers; one brother, George D. (Marion) Shaheen of Farmington Hills, MI; nieces and nephews, Frank (Linda) Shaheen and family, Julie Bender and family, Sam (Karen) Shaheen, Joe (Lori) Shaheen and family all of Canton, Joe (Linda) Tanoos and family, Rosemary(Mose) Kasis of Terre Haute, IN; and godson David (Elizabeth) Shaheen and family of Farmington Hills, MI; also survived by many other family members and friends. His gentle, patient and kind nature was an inspiration to all. These qualities became even more apparent through his loving devotion to his wife during her long and heartbreaking battle with Alzheimers. Funeral services will be Friday at 10am in St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church with the Very Reverend Father Joseph Cervo and Reverend Deacon Basil Shaheen officiating. Interment in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may Call Thursday 6-8 pm in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on South Cleveland Ave, and one hour before services at the church (9-10am). Trisagion Services will be Thursday at 5:30 pm in the funeral home.
