Wilbur M. Elliott, departed this earth and went to his heavenly home July 28, 2007, our loss is heavens gain. He was a generous loving man who placed his family above all else, he leaves five children to mourn his loss, Joan (Henry) Hilger, Janice (Frank) Dorto, John, Jerry (Bonnie) and Jack Elliott. One son, James precedes him in death. He enjoyed his grandchildren, Mike and Marc Dorto, Jason and Jamie Elliott, Jillian, Jordon and Jennifer Elliott; two special great grandchildren, Chance and tiny Isabella Dorto always brought a smile to his face, even Jangle, his pet, would perk his ears and bark when grandpa's name was mentioned. Wilbur was a WWII Army veteran as a Tech Sergeant in the Engineering Battalion having served in the South Pacific, Australia, the Philippines and New Guinea. Following his military service, he settled in Canton working at Canton Malleable Iron Company for 50 years as a Tool and Die Maker. He enjoyed every day that he worked. He was a member of the Canton Lodge F&AM # 60 for 56 years, Scottish Rite Valley of Canton, Past President of Local #1718 and had attended the Canton Baptist Temple from its founding. Wilbur always promoted high moral values for his family by his example and through his use of witty sayings "If you don't take that first drink, you'll never become an alcoholic", and he followed that advise his whole life. He lost his dear wife, Iva in 1989 after 48 years of marriage. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Laura (Lashly) Elliott; one brother, Junior Elliott; one sister, Dorothy Dickerhoof. Funeral services will be Tuesday July 31, 2007 at 1pm in the Myers-Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home. Interment with military honors in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call Monday 7-9pm and one hour before services on Tuesday (12-1pm) in the funeral home. Condolences or fond memories may be sent online at www.sandersfuneralhomes.com.
