Wayne W. Dougherty
Age 88, of East Canton, passed away Sunday January 30, 2011 in Aultman Hospital. He was born June 4, 1922 in Sherrodsville, OH to the late John and Mary (Schneider) Dougherty. Wayne was an East Canton resident since 1968, retiring as a self-employed contractor and retiring from North Canton City Schools as a teacher in 1987 after 28 years of service. He was a member of the Canton Baptist Temple where he formerly was a Sunday school teacher. Wayne was a WWII Army Air Corps veteran serving as a Fighter Pilot, he was a POW for eighteen months after which he was awarded a Purple Heart and the Airmen's medal. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Pauline G. Dougherty in 2009; two brothers, Vernon and Paul Dougherty. He is survived by one daughter, Barbara Swinehart of East Canton; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Deborah Dougherty of East Canton; three grandchildren, Julie (John) Wurgler, Blake (Samantha) Dougherty, Laura (Gordon) Conway; five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Friday February 4, 2011 at 10:00am in the Sanders Funeral Home in East Canton with Delaney Young officiating. Interment in Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
