Warren E. "Skip" Smith Jr.
Age 65 of East Canton, passed away Thursday June 16, 2011 in Green Meadows Health and Wellness Center following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born March 28, 1946 in Canton to Warren E. and Lucy A. (Garcia) Smith Sr. and was a life resident of the Canton and East Canton areas. Skip was a 1964 graduate of Timken High School and had served in the Army Reserve. He retired from the Ohio Operating Engineers in 2006 after 34 years of service and was employed by The Beaver Excavating Company. Skip was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #2199 and the Greater East Canton Community Development Association. He is preceded in death by his father, Warren E. Smith Sr. He is survived by his wife, Linda D. (Swaney) to whom he was married 43 years; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jeff Smith of Minerva, Craig and Laurie Smith of Wilton, CT; two grandchildren, Alana Smith and Ryan Smith; his mother, Lucy Shankle of East Canton. Funeral services will be Monday June 20, 2011 at 11:00am in Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church with Terry Bailey officiating. Interment in Mapleton Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday 5-7pm in the Sanders Funeral Home in East Canton and one hour before services on Monday at the church (10-11am). In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Skip's name may be made to the Foltz Community Center at 224 Wood St N., East Canton, OH 44730 or the American Cancer Society at P.O.
