Walter J. Young
Age 90, of Malvern, passed away Monday November 18, 2013 in Aultman Hospital. He was born August 14, 1923 in East Sparta to the late F.M. and Daisy A. (Cameron) Young. Walt walked up the lane from the Young Farm to his Melscheimer one room school house for his first eight years of school, and then attended Timken Vocational High School to further his education as a machinist. He served his country in the Marine Corps during WWII. Walt was formerly employed by General Asphalt and Caterpillars Ohio Machinery before co-founding Grodhaus and Young Inc., in Waynesburg with Ed Grodhaus in 1963 and retiring in 1987. Following his retirement, Walt formed Young Enterprise with his son Ken. Walt served on the Board of Directors of Consumers National Bank, Minerva for 25 years. He was a member of Caldwell Lodge #330 Bolivar. The time Walt spent flying his own aircraft was the highlight he reached in his lifetime accomplishments. He is preceded in death by one son, Skip Young in 1982. He is survived by his wife, Dona H. (Tanner) to whom he was married 66 years; one son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Trudi Young of Mineral City; two grandchildren, Rick (Faydra) Young of Navarre, Kara Nicole (Jonathan) Lindsay of North Carolina. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Schmotzer and all of his staff at Morning Star for their exceptional care and compassion through Walt's courageous journey; the infusion department nurses for their kindness and the sixth floor nurses care during Walt's seven visits. A private family funeral service was conducted Thursday November 21, 2013 in the Melscheimer School with Rev. Bill Carter officiating. Interment in Melscheimer Cemetery.
