Walter Andrew Ackerman Sr.
Age 85, of Navarre, passed away Thursday January 14, 2016 in Aultman Compassionate Care. He was born August 4, 1930 in Canton to the late Andrew Fisher and Agnes (Crowl) Ackerman. Walter was a Korean War Army Veteran. He retired from Babcock and Wilcox Company after more than 20 years of service and was formerly employed by the Akro Corporation. He was a member of Fohl Memorial United Methodist Church, the Goldwing Road Riders and the Fraternal Order of Eagles aerie #2223, North Canton. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Carol Lee Ackerman in 1980; one sister, Joanne Ackerman. Walter is survived by his wife, Carol L. (Smith) to whom he was married 35 years; eight children, Walter A. Ackerman Jr., Gregory A. (Susan) Ackerman, Terry L. Ackerman (fiancé, Tina), Scott E. (Chris Schockling) Ackerman, Sherry L. Prowant, Tony (Dee Dee) Richards, Leonard Richards, Brad (Danielle) Richards; 26 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Robert (Mary) Ackerman, William (Dorothy) Ackerman and Daniel (Glenda) Ackerman; one sister, Kay Jean Proctor. Funeral services will Monday January 18, 2016 at 11:00am in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home. Friends will be received Sunday 2-5 pm and one hour before services on Monday (10-11am).
