Viola M. Platzer Deremer
Viola M. Platzer Deremer, age 76, of Canton, died Tuesday, October 5, 2004 at the Canton Christian Home where she resided. Born May 1, 1928 to Henry and Ethel (Bechtel) Deckerd. A 1946 graduate of Canton Township High School and a 60 year member of Sponseller Grange # 1925. Viola served as a volunteer, board member and treasurer for the Canton Alzheimers Association. She was employed by Canton Hardware and the Holly Sugar Company in Colorado Springs, CO. Viola was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher and a member of the choir and bell choir. She had also attended North Industry Christian Church. Preceded in death by her parents, one sister Lucille Deckerd; her husband of 41 years, Joseph A. Platzer and husbands, Emmett R. Tilton and Donald L. Deremer. Survived by children, Karen (Sam) Shaheen of Canton, Donna (Tim) Krabill of Louisville, Daniel (Stacey) Platzer of Vicksburg, MI. Step-children; Cindy (John) Rhodes, Becki Huff, Dr. Don Deremer, Dan (Gladys) Deremer and Dave (Judy) Deremer. Grandchildren; Michael (Shannon) Krabill, Matthew (Candice) Krabill, Katie Krabill and Devon Platzer, one brother, Dale Deckerd. Also survived by step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Monday, October 11, 2004 in Mt. Zion United Methodist Church at 11:00am, with Rev. Earl Bailey and Stephen Kimbrel officiating. Friends may call Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 pm in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on S. Cleveland Ave. and one hour before services Monday at the church (10:00-11:00 am). In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Mt. Zion U.M.C. at 2637 Baum St. SE, Canton, OH 44707 or the American Lung Association at 1300 Christmas Seal Dr., NW, Canton, OH 44709.
