Velma R. Barker
Age 80, of Canton died Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at Stone Crossing Care Center following an extended illness. Born May 2, 1934 in Canton, Ohio to the late Charles and Stella (Heider) Mateer. She was a life resident of Canton and retired from U.S. Chemical and Plastics in 1999 with 25 years of service. Preceded in death by her husband, Harry D. Barker; one sister, Shirley Yeager; one brother, Eugene Hess; one granddaughter, Jennifer Rogers; two great grandsons, Drake and Aiden Rogers. She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Linda Rogers of Canton, Kathy and Marty James of Canton, Nettie and Philip Lawler of North Carolina; eight grandsons; 18 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Joseph Palombo of Canton; several nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Stone Crossing Care Center and staff for their wonderful care of Velma. Funeral services will be Friday, Sept. 19, 2014 at 11:00 am in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on South Cleveland Ave. with Pastor Matt Coutcher officiating. Interment in Melscheimer Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Friday from 10 – 11 am. Memorial donations may be made to Crossroads Hospice, 3743 Boettler Oaks Dr., Suite E., Green, OH. 44685.
