Thomas E. Riley
Thomas E. Riley, age 68, of Canal Fulton, died Monday April 30, 2007 in Aultman Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer. He fought to the end with the help and encouragement of his loving wife. He was born December 4, 1938 in Canton, OH, to Randall E. and Mildred I. (Reed) Riley. He was a Canal Fulton resident most of his life, retiring from Bank One in 2001 after 40 years in the finance business. Thomas was a 1991 graduate of Malone College with a B.A. in Business and a U.S. Navy veteran having served on the U.S.S. Randolph. He was a member of Saints Philip and James Catholic Church where he served as Lectern and delivered Meals on Wheels. He was a Charter Member and Past Grand Knight of St. Philip and James Council #11037 and Knight of Monsignor Graham Assembly. Member of the Lion's Club and recipient of a Melvin Jones Fellowship in 2006 and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #2223. A life member of the Benevolent and Protective Order Elks Lodge #2029 for 32 years where he was Elk of the Year in 1986-1987, Past Exalted Ruler 1981-1982 and currently served as Secretary. Thomas was a founder of the North Canton Elks Teen of the Month Scholarship and had served as a Little League coach for many years. He loved playing golf, sports of all types and playing cards. He is preceded in death by his father, Randall E. Riley; step-father, John Horton; father-in-law, Andrew Nagel. He is survived by his wife Carol Lee (Nagel) to whom he was married 44 years; two sons, Thomas E. Riley II of Canton, Christopher A. Riley of Chicago, IL; mother, Midge I. Horton of Canton South; two sisters, Bonnie Sanders and Gerry Bess both of Canton South; mother-in-law, Maryann Nagel of Canton; sister-in-law and her husband, Dolores and James Magisano; brother-in-law, Alfred Nagel; life long friends, Rich and Judy Kuntz of North Canton; several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday May 4, 2007 at 10:00am in Saints Philip and James Catholic Church with Fr. John Warner as celebrant. Interment in North Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday 2-4 and 7-9pm in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on S. Cleveland Ave. with Elks services at 6:45pm and Knights of Columbus service at 9:00pm.
