Theresa Cheviron
On December 22, 2020, Theresa peacefully stepped into the arms of her heavenly Father from complications due to COVID 19. Theresa was born in Canton on Feb. 25,1926 to Spanish immigrant parents, Manuela and Dionisio Oterino. She was preceded in death by her parents and her honorary daughter, Phyllis Newell. She is survived by her four children, Diana (Bob) Newell, Dini Cheviron, Dave (Sue) Cheviron and Denny (Claudia) Cheviron. Her family included her grandchildren, Daryl Newell, Bobbi Angely, Rachel Kramer, Lauren Heckman, Jennifer Michael and Jessica Brister. She loved spending time with her eleven great grandchildren.
Theresa was a proud 1943 graduate of Timken Vocational High School where she participated in the orchestra, marching and swing bands and choir. She played first violin with the Canton Jr. Symphony. Volunteering was a lifelong practice for Theresa. She volunteered at both Aultman and Mercy hospitals and as the secretary for Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Bridgepoint Community Center and Canton Local Schools. She "retired" from volunteering at age 90!
Theresa was the manager of the Malone College bookstore and retired in 1991 from Berean Christian store after 15 years as store supervisor.
She continued to be active in the Spanish American Friday Cards group and the neighborhood knitting club with dear friends until recently.
Theresa was a lifelong active member of Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church and participated in the Mary Martha Circle, Coffee Klatch and Bible studies over many years. She dearly loved Pastor Scott Bacon and her Peace family.
Our mom was a beautiful, smiling, laughing, grace filled soul whose faith guided her every decision. She was a living example of God's love--- always supportive, always encouraging, always forgiving, and always loving. She worked hard but would always say "yes" to any opportunity to spend time with family and friends. This included traveling, whether with friends, the AARP group or especially a family vacation. God blessed us with our wonderful mom, and we thank Him for the gift she was to us all!
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to either Peace Lutheran Church 3828 Cleveland Ave SE Canton, OH. 44707 or The House of Loreto 2812 Harvard Ave NW Canton, OH. 44709
There will be a celebration of Theresa’s life at a future date when we can gather safely. Condolences or fond memories may be shared online at www.sandersfuneralhomes.com.
