Thelma M. Barkley
age 85, of Massillon, passed away Wednesday September 16, 2009 in the Hospitality House following an extended illness. She was born February 20, 1924 in Strasburg, OH to the late Homer and Elizabeth (Shear) Brumbaugh. Thelma was a Massillon area resident most of her life and was formerly employed by Perry Local Schools for 16 years. She was a member of Eden Church of the Brethren where she had served as Deaconess, financial secretary and children's director. She was also a member of the Perry Grange; Richville Women's Club and served as a former Girl Scout Leader and Cookie Chairwomen. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Clyde L. Barkley in 1988; one daughter, Janice M. Barkley; one sister, Ruth Price; two brothers, Edgar and Arthur Brumbaugh. She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Gail Gilmore of Canton, Kathy and Shaun Irwin of East Canton; three grandsons, Steven and Christopher Gilmore, Kyle Deckerd; one step-granddaughter, Amanda Irwin; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Russell Brumbaugh, Chester and Barb Brumbaugh, Larry and Shirley Brumbaugh all of Canton; one sister-in-law, Lucille Shoemaker of Canton; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Saturday September 19, 2009 at 11:00am in the Eden Church of the Brethren with Lance Lindenberger officiating. Interment in Eden Cemetery. Friends may call Friday 6-8pm in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on S. Cleveland Ave. and one hour before services at the church on Saturday (10-11am).
