Stephen Balog Sr.

Age 92, of North Industry, OH passed away Thursday, May 24, 2018. Born June 2, 1925 in Midway, Ohio to the late Michael and Mary (Mularcik) Balog.  He was a North Industry resident since 1949 when he constructed his home from the ground up. Stephen was a U.S. Army WWII veteran and was a recipient of the Purple Heart Medal. He retired from East Ohio Gas Company in 1987 with 30 years of service and never missed a day of work. He was a member of St Mary’s/St Benedict Catholic Parish and the Knights of Columbus. Stephen was an avid gardener, golfer where he had two holes-in-one at the age of 80 and 85, bowler where he bowled until two months shy of his 90th birthday, and he was a “Jack of all trades”. Stephen was a devoted and loving dad and grandpa. He truly enjoyed time with his family. He was a strong and loveable guy. Preceded in death by his wife, Irene Balog in 2012; a beloved daughter and son-in-law, Joanne and Leo Vitale; three brothers, Paul, Benedict and Andrew Balog; two sisters, Mary Hatras and Margarita Balog. He is survived by two sons, Stephen Jr. and Robert Balog; two daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and Denny Allem, Monica and Carey Linerode; five grandchildren, Joe (Liz) Vitale, Amanda Linerode, Jennifer (David) Greene, Nichole Allem, Nathan (Sarah) Linerode; two step-grandchildren, James Allem and Jeffery (Kim) Allem; four great grandchildren, Benjamin and Vincent Vitale, Lyla Mae and Brantley Greene; 11 step great grandchildren; two step great-great grandchildren; one sister, Elizabeth Zdolshek; In-laws, Angie Balog, Olga and Jim Lukacsko, Stella Zavacky, John, Jean, Eddie, Ellen and Joe Oboy; a former daughter-in-law, Mary Tessanne; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at 10:00 am in St Mary’s Catholic Church, Canton with Fr. Benson Okpara as Celebrant. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 5 – 8 pm in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on South Cleveland Ave.
