Shirley A. Secrest
Shirley A. Secrest, age 81, of East Canton, passed away Wednesday February 20, 2008 in Aultman Hospital following an extended illness. She was born September 8, 1926 in Dover, OH, to the late George W. and Leuretta F. (Taiclet) Johnson II. She was an East Canton resident for the past 50 years. Shirley was employed by Burger Aircraft and volunteered at the Dennison Canteen during WWII and was also formerly employed by U.S. Ceramic Tile. She was a member of Indian Run Christian Church where she was active in the Sunshine Servants, Dorcas Circle, Tulip Tea and served as a Sunday School teacher for 25 years. Shirley served as a volunteer at the Canton Christian Home and the Christian Children's Home of Ohio and was a member of Robertsville Grange. She won many awards at the Stark County Fair for her cooking and flowers. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one daughter, Kathy S. Dazey; 2 sisters, Marjorie Stevens and Joan Materna. She is survived by her husband, Robert J. Secrest Sr. to whom she was married 60 years; three children and their spouses, Elizabeth Heid of North Canton, Robert J., Jr. and Kathleen Secrest of East Canton, Tommy and Jessica Secrest of Carrollton; 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; 4 siblings and their spouses, Jolane Ohliger, Vivian and Willard Fiddler, Jane and Jerry Shaffer, George "Bill" and Barb Johnson; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Monday February 25, 2008 at 11:00 am in Indian Run Christian Church with Terry Bailey and Gary Robinson officiating. Interment in Indian Run Cemetery.
