Shane G. Donaldson husband, father, step-father, grandfather, great grand-father, father-in-law, friend and neighbor, is now absent from the body but present with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and singing praises to Him. Shane received his crown of life on November 15, 2013. God is his shield and his exceeding great reward and now is made perfect.
Dad was loving, caring, forgiving, giving, and loved his practical jokes and funnies he would play on others, like his wet willies. He loved and laughed when he would receive battery operated animals that talked or made noises or flipped over, sharing with all when they would visit him. He was faithful, unwavering and committed to his Lord God, faithful and humble even into death, walking worthy of loving God who called him into His kingdom and glory. Those who knew Dad or were around him very long knew Jesus was his life as this was typically the topic most he enjoyed talking about. His Lord was his life and he would want everyone to make Him theirs as well. He was a doer of the Word. Dad's favorite verse was John 14:27 where Jesus said "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not at the world gives give I unto you. Let not your heart me troubled, neither let it be afraid."
Shane was 87 just celebrating his birthday in August. Barbara his wife was a true helpmate and is equally committed to her Lord. They would read, share, listen, and go to wherever the Lord would lead them. Shane was especially humbled with the opportunity the Lord gave him to do missionary work on the island of Zamboanga in the Philippines where he was the leading force in the efforts to build a church and school and later assist in drilling a well for water for the people he loved and cherished so they could better serve the Lord.
Shane enjoyed his family which is scattered across this great country. Whenever there is an opportunity for praise for one of the family's accomplishments the happiness and joy was celebrated with all. Pictures on their walls are the hall of fame for the many family members. Each family member had a special place in Dad's heart and he loved every one very much.
Shane was born in New Franklin Ohio in 1926 to Walter and Olive (George). He was the last and youngest of seven children. He attended Minerva High School and attended Cambridge College until his country called for his service in the Navy during WW II where he was later honorably discharged, a true patriot to his country hanging the flag of the USA and Ohio in his room. A lifetime member of the American Legion post 166 in Alliance. He was a great athlete and would recall those times on the ball field still remembering plays made by himself but more so of his team mates accomplishments. He was a Boy Scout Master and Little League coach in Alliance area for years. He embraced and enjoyed tracing the Donaldson ancestry, along with Barbara, where the Donaldson's settled in Scroggsfield, OH from Scotland and Ireland spending many hours and trips made finding and learning all they could. He enjoyed his westerns, eating at Bob Evans, and looking forward to holidays and events with the family and always interested in the desserts to accompany his coffee. He was a retired carpenter.
Shane is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 34 years Barbara (Culbertson), Sons Larry (Debbie) of Alliance, Rev. Fred (Marsha) of Palm Springs CA, Bill (Chris) of Louisville, stepdaughter JoAnn Griggs of Scottsdale Az., stepsons Larry (Laurel) and Tom (Janice) of Oregon City OR, 16 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, nieces and favorite nephew Jim of Chicago.
