Sara E. Blackledge
Age 88, of Canton died Wednesday, July 2, 2014 in Astoria Nursing Home following an extended illness. Born July 29, 1925 in Beallsville, OH. to the late Charm M. and Priscilla M. (Brown) Gates. She was the retired owner/operator of Sara's Beauty Shop. Sara was an active member of Eden Church of the Brethren where she had been a Sunday school teacher, youth leader and had been in charge of the church's public dinners for many years. She was a past Matron of Canal Fulton Chapter #180 Order of Eastern Star, former Deputy of District 13 Grand Chapter of Ohio Order of Eastern Star, life member of Love Links of Order of Eastern Star of Ohio and member of Legacy Chapter# 596 Order of Eastern Star. Preceded in death by her husband, John A. Blackledge in 1997; a brother, Marvin Gates; a sister, Donna Jean Mills. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, John Jr. and Tammy Blackledge, James and Katherine Blackledge all of Canton; five grandchildren, Michelle Blackledge, Melissa Blackledge, Lynn Blackledge, Joy Roderick, Susan Blackledge; 13 great grandchildren; two sisters, Beula Wolf of Cuyahoga Falls, Bernadine Blile of Louisville; two brothers, Darrell Gates of Florida, Raymond Gates of Canton. Funeral services will be Monday, July 7, 2014 at 11:00 am in Eden Church of the Brethren with Pastor Jeff Ellsworth officiating. Interment in Eden Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday from 2 – 4 pm in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church from 10 – 11 am.
