Roy Joseph Gill
Age 58, of Canton Township, passed away April 1, 2014 in Aultman Compassionate Care Center after a courageous battle with cancer. Roy was raised in Bolivar and attended Tusky Valley High School. He had a passionate love for the game of baseball. He helped revive little league baseball in Bolivar and also coached various teams. Roy played softball in Tuscarawas County Softball League for TJM Excavating. He married his loving wife, Janet in 1984 and they resided in Canton South. He became an Amos McDannel Peewee Baseball coach and served as vice-president of the organization (1995-2001). He continued enjoying the sport by watching his son through his baseball career, with travel ball, his collegiate career at Kent State University and professional baseball. Roy was vice-president of the Stark County Terriers Association and enjoyed meeting many people over the years related to baseball. Roy loved to be with family, loved the smiles all the little ones brought to him and enjoyed laughing with friends and talking of old times. He had many good times, laughter and truly enjoyed life. Roy was currently employed by Ergon Trucking since 1997; he formerly served as a truck driver for 28 years with ICI Explosives, Quaker State, MB Operating, Regula Milk Transport, TJM Excavating and had worked at US Steel for 9 years. He is preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Gill; mother, Cletus Hall; one brother, Larry Gill; uncle, Walter (Uncle Bud) Burkhart and grandmother, Lillian Burkhart. He is survived by his wife, Janet (Dehart) Gill; son, Justin Joseph Gill; step-father, Charles Hall and his friend, Mary Ann; sister, Bonita (Russ) Parr; step-sisters, Charlotte (Russ) Sweeney and Sally (Dave) Osburn; aunt, Wanda Burkhart and her family; mother-in-law, Sylvia Dehart; sister-in-law, Debra (Michael) Menegay; brother-in-law, Avery (Jane) Dehart and many loved cousins, nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Saturday April 5, 2014 at 10:00am in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on S. Cleveland Ave. with Pastor Bruce Mont officiating. Interment in St. Stephen Cemetery, Bolivar. Friends may call Friday 5-8pm in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to First Church of the Resurrection at 901 Tuscarawas St E. Canton, OH 44707.
