Robert Martin “Bob” Volk

Our community sadly lost a pillar on Saturday, October 16, 2021, when Bob Volk passed away at Brookdale Senior Living at the age of 95. Bob was born on April 7, 1926, in Pittsburg, PA. He graduated from Timken Vocational High School in 1944 where he worked on Hercules Engines and majored in automotive. He had fond memories of his high school days because he met the love of his life, Lauretta J. Hunter. After being called into the service of the U.S. Navy, he served for 2 years in the European Arena of World War II. He returned to Canton in 1946 and married Lauretta on October 15th, celebrating 75 years of marriage this year. Bob is a loving father of three daughters, Judith (Richard) Christen, Linda Volk (Charles Stebler) and Catherine Church; four grandchildren, Brian (Melissa) Christen, Tanya (Scott) Walent, Amy (Sam) Mirto and Jennifer Church; one great-granddaughter, Melanie (Tony) Ruess. Bob enjoyed life to the fullest. In his spare time, when not operating his business, J&B Coil Cleaning, he loved tinkering with cars, taking on difficult home projects, mowing the grass with his John Deere riding mower complete with a Jaguar hood ornament and hubcaps, Polka dancing and spending time with family and friends. Bob’s two favorite mantras, “Did I tell you the joke about?” He loved to tell jokes and make people laugh and “Always go first class in everything that you do in life.” Bob’s family would like to sincerely thank the staff of Brookdale Senior Living and Aultman Hospice for their loving and compassionate care. Bob will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of everyone he interacted. He was a well-respected member of the Canton community. Funeral services will be Thursday October 21, 2021, at 2:00pm in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home with Jeff Franks officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
