Robert Andrew “Bob” Shedlock
age 97, of Canton, Ohio passed away Sunday, November 20, 2022 at St Luke Lutheran Community Nursing Facility surrounded by family. Bob was born May 16, 1925 in Dearborn, Michigan to the late Andrew and Mary (Plaviak) Shedlock. He was a Navy Landing Craft Signalman, Boxer, and a member of the Naval Chorus during WW2. After the war, he married his Sweetheart, Violet “Vi” (Glomb) Shedlock and moved to Indianapolis, Indiana (Cumberland) where he obtained his Barber License and became an Entrepreneur for 63 years of “Bob’s Barber Shop”. They raised their 2 sons, Rick and Glen, and enjoyed dancing, traveling and visiting with their family and friends. After Vi’s passing in 2012, Bob moved to Canton, Ohio with his Son, Glen (Missi) where they cared for him in their home until late 2019 then due to his increased care needs, he was placed in St Luke’s. While living in Ohio for the last decade he was active as the church usher at Trinity UCC of Canal Fulton where his son was the former Pastor. There he sat in his wheelchair in the church lobby usually with a bellowed greeting to everyone who entered…” How do? How do? How do?!”. He was very popular at the Sarah Care Adult Care Center, where he developed friendships and got to go on field trips and the main thing, socialize with others; he absolutely loved to be surrounded by others. He enjoyed sitting in his recliner in the living room with Glen and his granddaughter, Kayla watching Purdue University, Colts, Browns, Indians specifically, but any sports game was a favorite pastime; many memories of him yelling at the top of his lungs at the TV. He was very supportive of his Grandchildren, and if at a music or sporting event he would be the loudest one cheering for them. He enjoyed going on a Bahama Cruise with his late brother, George and his wife, Ruby, and visiting with them and family in Florida and in North Carolina. He especially would remark on a past family vacation that he took to Myrtle Beach, SC where he jet skied in crazy, hazardous conditions that later the tour guide stated “I should have never brought you out today”, and he rode a Banana Boat and Parasailed, which was intense for an 88 year old man; to hear him tell it, he would say “That was the best damn vacation I’ve taken.” or “Fannnnnnnnnntastic!!!” referencing anything he enjoyed which was virtually anything that he was a part of. He’d wake up each morning and proclaim, “How are you this fine, fine morning?” He definitely knew how to make an impression and was such a genuine, kind, sweet, loving human. Another one of his “Bob-isms” is if you were telling him something that he wasn’t aware of he’d reply, “I’ll be damn.” or “Oh?”. He knew how to make everyone feel loved and special, we need more of that in this world. Bob leaves behind his sons, Glen (Missi) Shedlock of Ohio/ South Carolina and Rick (Karen) Shedlock of Indiana; Grandchildren, Sarah (Mitchell) Caris, Laura (Jeff) Shedlock of Florida, Kayla (Brandon) Szink, Austin (Olivia) Myers, Darian Bobish, Cody (Emily) Myers of Ohio and his great grandchildren, Dean and Mila Caris, Eva and Hunter Myers and Dominick, Charlotte and Benjamin Lako. There will be a Celebration of Life Service in his honor, tentatively May 2023 (his birthday month), details will be announced at a later date.
