Robert G. "Red" McFarland
Age 78, of Canton, passed away Saturday March 2, 2013 in Mercy Medical Center. He was born September 27, 1934 in Canton to the late Joseph and Rebecca (Grant) McFarland. Red was a life resident of Canton and a 1952 graduate of Canton South High School. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. Red retired from American Electric Power/ Ohio Power in 1992 after 40 years of service. He was a member of Canton Baptist Temple where he served as an usher and bus driver for the Jolly Sixties. For more than 20 years he drove the instrument bus for the Canton South Marching Band and assisted in many of the band fund raisers. His greatest joy was helping others. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Jean McFarland in 2008; one sister, Patricia Mittas. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Jill and Jim Wedding, Lisa and Tom Orr; one son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Cheryl McFarland; four grandsons, Matthew (Kiova) Staley, Brian Staley, Jason Orr and Nathan McFarland; two great-grandchildren, Taven and Mikayla Staley. Funeral services will be Thursday March 7, 2013 at 11:00am in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home with Delaney Young officiating. Interment in Sunset Hills Burial Park.
