Age 88, of Canton died Thursday, December 25, 2014 in Aultman Hospital following a brief illness. Born May 31, 1926 in East Sparta, Ohio to the late John and Dorthea (Theil) Herbert. He was a life resident of the Canton area and was a U.S. Navy WWII veteran where he was stationed in Saipan in the South Pacific. Bob retired from the Dyner Corp. in 1984 and was also employed and retired from Metropolitan Ceramic. He was a founding member of North Industry United Methodist Church. Also member of Fraternal Order of Eagles, North Industry Sportsman's Club and North Lawrence Fishing Club. Bob was a former coach and had served as president of North Industry Little League Baseball and was a supporter of the Melscheimer School restoration project. He had been active in many bowling leagues and square dance clubs and loved hunting and fishing. Bob was very loyal in attending all his children's and grandchildren's activities and sporting events and was considered the "Card Shark" of the family. Preceded in death by two brothers, John and Bill Herbert; five sisters, Alice Herbert, Dorothy Wilson, Jenny Sprankle, Minnie Slutz and Helen Habrun. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Eileen (Habrun) Herbert; one son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Vicki Herbert of Louisville; one daughter and son-in-law, Darlene and Charles Milligan of Orrville; six grandchildren, Dan Herbert (Chelesa Wolfe), Adam Milligan (Elizabeth Manners), John (Lauren) Herbert, Andy Milligan (Andrea Kelly), Matt (Brandi) Herbert, Aaric Milligan (Kayli Swank); two great grandchildren, Issac Robert Herbert and Rylie Eileen Milligan; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2014 at 12:00 pm in North Industry United Methodist Church, 155 Faircrest St. S.W., Canton, OH. 44706, with Pastor Jeri K. Johnson officiating. Interment in Melscheimer Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church from 11:00 – 12:00 pm. Memorial donations may be made to North Industry United Methodist church.
