Richard R. "Dick" Hockensmith
Age 75, of Canton, passed away Saturday July 12, 2014 in Hanover Healthcare following an extended illness. Dick was born April 14, 1939 in Canton to the late Ralph and Eloyse (Plaskett) Hockensmith. He was a life resident of Canton and a 1957 graduate of Canton South High School. Dick retired from Superior Paving and Materials after 14 years of service and was a very skilled equipment operator. He was a member of North Industry Christian Church. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one sister, Beverly Kail; a special uncle, Ray Hockensmith. Dick is survived by his wife, Beverly J. (Thorley) to whom he was married 55 years; four children and their spouses, Brian and Barbara Hockensmith, Kevin Hockensmith, Lori and Bryan Sills, Greg and Tina Hockensmith; six grandchildren, Brittany, Brad, Nicholas, Alyssa, Megan and Nathan; one great-grandson, Owen; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbara and Don Witts, Betty and David Waid. Funeral services will Wednesday July 16, 2014 at 10:00am in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home with Dick's cousin, Mark Black Officiating. Burial will be in Melscheimer Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday 5-8pm in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association at P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
