Richard L. Gero, age 92, of East Canton, died Friday evening in Aultman Hospital following a brief illness. Son of the late Lloyd and Pearl (Woodard) Gero. Richard was a life resident of the Louisville and East Canton area. Former owner/operator of Louisville Aluminum Foundries for 26 years and continued his employment until his retirement 1984. Devoted and active member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ where he was a Sunday School Teacher for 45 years and had served as superintendent and a lay minister. He was a WWII Marine Corps veteran and a member of AARP. Richard enjoyed playing cards but his passion was a good game of checkers and he'd challenge anyone. He was a very gentle and caring man. Besides his parents he is also preceded in death by his wife, Ruth E. Gero to whom he was married 57 years; three brothers, Donald, Wesley and Woodrow Gero; one sister, Terzah Sevier. Survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Brian and Patricia Gero of Canton, Stephan and Cynthia Gero of East Canton; one daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Michael Lahmers of Louisville; four sisters, Mary Love of Canton, Hariett Fritchley of Tarpin Springs, FL, Margaret Shaffer and Donna Hillman both of Canton; numerous nieces, nephews and his beloved pets.
