Richard William Coffey
Age 67 was born May 25, 1955, in Canton, Ohio. He passed peacefully at home surrounded by family on August 30, 2022, after a courageous battle with stage 4 esophageal cancer.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Beth; his three daughters, Lindsay (Bill) Hall, Jackie Coffey, and Sara (Vic Vicenty) Coffey; one grandson, Mason Vicenty; sister, Ruth Morrison; brother, David Coffey; brother-in-law, Paul Mathiellis; and mother-in-law, Barbara Jarrett, who thought the world of Richard; several nieces, nephews, and many friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Hannah Marie (Payne) and Allen Coffey; and his sister, Carol Mathiellis, who passed the day prior to Richard.
After his 1973 graduation from Timken High School, Richard started his 44-year career with Sears and retired as a service tech in 2017. His family and those who knew him well can attest that he was the ultimate Mr. Fix-It: he could repair or rig up just about anything. He was a proud Canton McKinley band parent from 2003-2009, volunteering his time chaperoning and fundraising.
Richard spent his time doing the things he loved most: camping, going to the beach, and spending time with his family. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather; the latter - being “Paw” - was a highlight of his life and he shared an incredibly special bond with his grandson Mason.
A memorial service will be Thursday, September 1, 2022 at 6:00 pm in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on South Cleveland Ave. Friends may call two hours prior to the service on Thursday from 4:00 – 6:00pm.
