Phil A. Unkefer
Age 71, of Louisville, passed into the arms of his loving Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday January 20, 2018 while at Akron General/Cleveland Clinic Hospice Care Center. He was born February 19, 1946 in Canton to the late Ralph D. and Bessie M. (Weaver) Unkefer. Phil was a 1964 graduate of Malvern High School, received his Bachelor's degree from Malone College and his Master’s degree from Akron University. He retired from Louisville City Schools after teaching for 39 years. He was very active with the Louisville Education Association where he formerly served as President. He attended the Chapel in Marlboro and was a Sunday school teacher. Phil enjoyed the outdoors, especially gardening, and loved spending time with his family. He is preceded in death by three brothers, Donald, Stewart, and Russell Unkefer; one sister, Twila Herstine. Phil is survived by his wife, Carla K. (Boon) to whom he was married 48 years; four children, Jonathan (Amy) Unkefer, Sarah (Craig) Baugh, Jeremiah Unkefer and Anna Unkefer; four grandchildren, Benjamin, Rebekah, Elizabeth and Abigail; one brother, Larry (Patty) Unkefer; three sisters-in-law, Martha Haubert, Bertha Unkefer and Ruth Unkefer; numerous nieces and nephews and good friends. Friends and family will be received Wednesday, January 24th from 5-8pm at the Sanders Funeral Home in East Canton. A private family committal will be at Midway Mennonite Cemetery. A celebration of Phil’s life will be held on Saturday, January 27th at 11am at the Chapel in Marlboro with Pastor Joel Cochran officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to European Christian Mission (www.ecmi.org) or Ravi Zacharias International Ministries/Wellspring International (www.RZIM.org).
