Norman J. Gatschet

Norman J. Gatschet Sr., age 90, passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2023, at home surrounded by his family.

He was born On May 11, 1933, in Canton to the late Byron and Dorothy (Haines) Gatschet.

Norman graduated from Massillon Washington High School in 1951 and went on to work for Timken Co. for 43 years.  He was a member of the First Evangelical Congregational Church. Norman was an avid collector of Lionel trains.

Norman will be remembered as a kind and caring man who loved people.  He was the patriarch of the family who built the home he raised his children.  He will be deeply missed!

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Carolyn Gatschet of 68 years; children, Debbie (Roger) Geiselman, Norman “Jim” Gatschet Jr. (Susan), Becky (Todd) Gibbs, Larry Gatschet, Alice Walton and Bill Newcomer; 15 granchildren, 29 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Eugene and Jerry, granddaughter, Alisha Clark.

A visitation will be held on Friday July 7th from 5-7pm at Sanders Funeral Home in East Canton. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 8th at 11am at Sanders Funeral Home with Pastor Glenn Hanson officiating.  Norman will be laid to rest at Mapleton Cemetery.
