Norman L. Eckinger Sr., age 68, of Canton, died Wednesday July 21, 2004 in Cleveland Clinic following a brief illness. He was born Nov. 26, 1935 in East Canton, OH to the late Walter H. and Hilda (Koontz) Eckinger Sr. He was a life resident of the Canton area and a 1953 graduate of Canton South High School. He founded the General Contracting firm of Norman Eckinger Inc. in 1971. After building a successful and respected business for 30 years he retired from his daily duties in 2001, while continuing to serve on the board as Vice-President/ Corporate Secretary. Member of Lathrop Lodge #676 F.&A.M. and Al Koran Temple. Norman truly cherished spending time boating and fishing with his children and grandchildren. In his early years he enjoyed building and driving racecars. He is also preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Russ in 1990; one brother, Walter Eckinger Jr, and one sister Janice Eckinger. Survived by his wife, Jean (Lovy) to whom he was married 46 years. three sons and daughters-in-law; Norman Jr. and Jane Eckinger of Canton; Robert and Angela Eckinger of Dalton; Paul Eckinger of Canton. One daughter and son-in-law; Beth and Robert DiAntonio of Perry Twp. 14 grandchildren; Matthew, Anthony, Norman III, Jeanette, Katie, Natalie, Frank, Stephen, Bobby, Nina, Joey, Karissa, Noelle and Jimmy. One sister, Mary Margaret Williams of Canyon Country, CA. Services will be Monday July 26, 2004 in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home with Msgr. John C. Finnigan officiating. Interment in North Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday 2-4 and 6-8 pm, with Masonic services at 1:30pm on Sunday.
