Newton G. "Sparky" Sparks
Newton G. "Sparky" Sparks, age 82, of Canton, went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, January 10, 2006. Born July 11, 1923 in Minneapolis, NC, to the late Samuel and Nelia Sparks. He passed peacefully in Aultman Hospital with his wfe, Lucille, at his side. A decorated WWII Army veteran having served in the Battle of Normandy, where he was awarded a purple heart, a silver star and a bronze star. Newton was a Canton area resident for the past 56 years. He retired from Republic Steel, Berger Division, and was a member of the Sword of the Spirit Faith Center, Canton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Edward, Carl, Roy, Dennis, Andrew and Finnley Sparks; three sisters, Faye Braswell, Clara Bradshaw and Mira Greer. He is survived by his wife, Lucille (Calhoun) to whom he was married 60 years; one daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Dr. Thomas Jones of Fairmount, IN; one son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Regina Sparks of Massillon; four grandchildren, James Sparks of Chardon, David (Leah) Sparks of Massillon, Stephen Jones of Fairfax, VA, and Bethany Jones of Fairmount, IN; two great-grandchildren, Kamryn and Kendyl Sparks both of Massillon; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Lizzie Sparks, Clarence and Lucy Sparks, Homer and Carolyn Sparks; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Alta Gragg, Doris and Howard Harmon all of North Canton; sister-in-law, Nancy Sparks of Canton; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Friday at 10:00am in Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on S. Cleveland Ave. with Dr A. Edward Hylton and his son-in-law, Dr. Thomas Jones officiating. Interment with military honors in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call Thursday (tonight) 6-8pm in the funeral home.
