Myrtle Lewis, age 101, of Canton, died Friday January 27, 2006 in the Pines Nursing Home, where she had resided for the past 4 months, following a very brief illness. She was born August 12, 1904 in Yancey County, N.C., to the late Sid and Myra (Hubbard) Cooper. Myrtle was a Canton area resident since 1951 and was protestant in faith having attended several area churches in North Carolina. Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Kim M. Lewis in 1985; three brothers; two sisters; two infant children, Billy and Virgie Lewis; two great grandchildren, Dustin Sanford and Kirsten Olp. She is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Lillian and Boyd Edwards of Canton, Mae and Richard Shaw of Sarasota, FL, Alice and William H. Talkington of Canton, Betty and Raymond Morris of Oxford, OH; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Edward Lewis of Sarasota, FL, Ray and Karen Lewis of Elizabethtown, N.C.; 18 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10:00am in Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on S. Cleveland Ave. with Rev. Clarence Talkington officiating, Interment in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Friends may call Monday 6-8pm in the funeral home.
