Melvin Russell VanVoorhis
Age 88, of Ocala, Fl. passed away Saturday April 28, 2012 in his residence. He was born September 21, 1923 in Mapleton, OH to the late W. Ross and Olive May (Waltz) VanVoorhis. Melvin was a graduate of East Canton High School and the American College of Life Underwriting. He proudly served during WWII in the 736th Battalion and in Korea with the 987th Field Artillery where he was awarded one bronze star and five campaign stars. Melvin retired from John Hancock Life Insurance Company where he had served as a district manager. He was a member of the CLU Alumni, American Legion and W. Palm Golf Club. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Marion and Merlin VanVoorhis; three sisters, Ada M. VanVoorhis, Evelyn Fallot and Verda M. Foltz. He is survived by his wife, Janet L. (Davis) VanVoorhis; three sons, Paul R. of Fairfield, Fl, Gary J. of Dandridge, TN, David R. of Huntsville, IN; two daughters, Cheryl L. Shull of Smyrna, TN, Janet E. VanVoorhis of Hayden, ID; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
