Mattie E. Grossenbacher Phillips
Age 92, of Bolivar, passed away Friday March 23, 2012 in Hennis Care Center. She was born May 10, 1919 in Wise, Virginia to the late Elbert Monroe and Elizabeth (Meade) Freeman. Mattie was a Canton area resident most of her life and was a former member of St. Louis Catholic Church, Louisville. She worked as a clerk with the Stark County District Library for 25 years and also worked with the Bookmobile. Mattie was a member of Sandy Valley Eagles, Mayfield Senior Center, a 43 year member of Eastern Star and a member of the Stark County Sheriff Women's Auxiliary, rank of Sergeant. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her former husband, Okey Grossenbacher; husband, Ivan Phillips; one son, Phillip Grossenbacher; four brothers and four sisters. She was the loving mother of four daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Lee Spradlin of Columbus, Linda Matheson of Massillon, Debbie Vanckunas of Canton, Lisa and Chuck Lorey of Bolivar; one daughter-in-law, Sandy Grossenbacher; 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Clara Skiles of Michigan; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Wednesday March 28, 2012 at 10:00am in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on S. Cleveland Ave. with Pastor Mike Pozzuto officiating. Interment in Sunset Hills Burial Park.
