Mary Ann Waikem
Mary Ann Waikem, age 86, of Canton, passed away Sunday evening, June 5, 2005, at the Legends Care Center, after a brief illness. Mary was born into an Italian family and christened Maria Incoronata by her parents Dominico and Dominica (Roderigo) Danesi, on May 6, 1919, in Alliance, OH.
After her marriage to Michael E. Waikem, Sr., on May 7, 1937, she resided in Canton, and embraced with much love the Lebanese heritage of her Waikem Family. She fluently spoke English, Italian and Arabic. Mary is survived by four children, daughter, Cecelia (Lowell) Kramer; sons, Michael Jr. (Jan), Richard Sr. (Rosemary) and George Waikem; her sister, Phyllis (Robert) Ruffier of Rochester, NY; brother, Antonio (Betty) Danesi of Bradenton, FL; one aunt, Mary Acierni of Alliance; two sisters-in-law, Virginia Waikem of Beckley, WV, and Eugenia Waikem of Wildomar, CA; ten grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband on June 4, 1990, two sisters, Yolanda Fotheringham and Flora Berg; two brothers, Ralph and Alfred Danesi; one granddaughter and two great grandchildren. Mary attended St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church with her beloved neighbors and friends. Her greatest joy was having those she loved enjoy her ethnic food, chocolates and baklava. A mass of Christian burial will be Wednesday, June 8, 2005, at 10:00am in St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Morges, with Fr. Thomas Marut as celebrant. Entombment in North Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday (tonight) 6-8pm in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on S. Cleveland Ave. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church at P.O. Box 690, Waynesburg, OH 44688 or St. Joan of Arc School at 120 Bordner Ave SW, Canton, OH 44710.
