Mary L. Kandel
Mary L. Kandel, age 67, of East Canton, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday August 20, 2008. Mary was born, July 2, 1941 in Canton, Ohio, to the late Attorney Harry W. and Ruth B. Schmuck. She was a graduate of East Canton High School and Ohio Northern University with a degree in Pharmacy. She had an active membership in Faith United Methodist Church with leadership roles in many committees. She participated in numerous school and community projects as well. She enjoyed membership in P.E.O. Chapter BB of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Book Club, the Delta Zeta Sorority – Zeta Kappa Chapter, Delta Zeta Alumni and The Ohio State Pharmaceutical Association. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Harold C. "Pat" Schmuck, Jr., and one uncle, Harold C. Schmuck MD. She is survived by her devoted husband of 44 years, James R. Kandel; sons and daughters-in-law, Brian A. and Stephanie L. Kandel, Stephen J. and Melissa L. Kandel; grandchildren, Kourtney Hill, Jackson and Dylan Kandel all of Louisville; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Clark E. and Lillian M. Kandel of Sebring, OH; brothers, Harry W. "Mike" Schmuck Jr. and David Q. Schmuck; sisters and brothers-in-law, Elizabeth A. Bainter, Barbara L. and Daniel L. Ellington all of East Canton; brothers-in-law and their spouses, Rev. Clark and Linda Kandel, Gene and Laurene Kandel, Warren and Barbara Kandel all of Louisville; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. In addition, her memory will be cherished by family and friends, Pamela R. Schmuck, Bolton and Martha Strauch, Cora Morris and Ellen Windle. Mary was devoted to her family, loved her home, her travels, and her friends. Her gentle spirit masked the great strength and courage she had to face her challenges. She felt and lived each day as a gift. A memorial service will be Monday August 25, 2008 at 7:00pm in the Faith United Methodist Church, 300 9th St NW, North Canton, with Dr. Larry Morrison and Rev. Clark Kandel officiating. Friends may call Sunday 2-6pm in the Myers-Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home in East Canton and one hour before services on Monday at the church (6-7pm) with a P.E.O. service at 5:45pm on Monday in the church chapel.
