M. Evelyn Ickes, age 92, of the Canton Christian Home, passed away Saturday January 31, 2009. She was born May 15, 1916 in Magnolia, OH. to the late Evan W. and Ada (Sherer). Evelyn was a 1934 graduate of Louisville High School and a graduate of Canton Actual Business College. She retired from Sandy Valley Schools as a secretary in 1979. She was a Waynesburg resident most of her life and had also resided in the East Canton and Louisville areas. She was a member of Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church and former member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Waynesburg. Evelyn was very active in her church and various community and civic activities. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, W. Ralph Ickes in 1992; five brothers and one sister. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Ralph D. and Rose Ickes of Bluffton, SC; three daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen and Rennard Patterson of Magnolia, Carolyn and Eugene Shearer of East Canton, Janet and Gary Kail of Magnolia; nine grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; two sisters and two brothers. Funeral services will be Wednesday February 4, 2009 at 11:00am in the Myers-Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home in East Canton with Rev. Richard K. Thewlis officiating. Interment in Sandy Valley Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday 6-8 pm and one hour before services (10-11) am in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church at 108 E. Walnut St., East Canton, OH 44730. Condolences or fond memories may be shared online at www.sandersfuneralhomes.com.
