Leroy J. Westfall
Age 84 of East Canton died Monday, July 24, 2017 in Mercy Medical Center following an extended illness. Born August 29, 1932 in Osnaburg Township to the late Roy and Esta (Phillips) Westfall and has been a life resident of the township. He was a 1951 graduate of East Canton High School and in 2005 was inducted into the East Canton Football Hall of Fame. Leroy was a Korean War Air Force veteran where he was a tail gunner on a B-29. He retired from Ohio Bell in 1986 with 30 years of service. Leroy served as an Osnaburg Township Trustee for 12 years and a school board member for Osnaburg Local Schools for 8 years. He was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Post #667 American Legion, life member of VFW Post#3747 and the American Sportsman Club. He was inducted into the Stark County Baseball Hall of Fame and served ten years as president of the Stark County Baseball Association. Preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Westfall in 1984; one brother, Russell Westfall; two sisters, Alma Clark and Gladys Beck. He is survived by one daughter, LeeAnn Westfall; one son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Amy Westfall; one granddaughter, Meghan Baker; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Louise Westfall, Stanley and Sandy Westfall, Donald Westfall; four sisters and brother-in-law, Wilma Haney, Erleen and Karl Blattert, Eileen Moroney, Dora Ridolphi. Friends may call Thursday, July 27, 2017 from 5:00 – 8:00 pm in the Sanders Funeral Home in East Canton. Memorial donations may be made to the East Canton High School Athletic Booster Club.
