Leroy Amos
Age 64 of Navarre passed away Friday, November 28, 2014 in Mercy Medical Center from complications of a massive stroke. Born December 19, 1949 in Canton he was the son of the late Blair and Venus (Meyers) Amos. Leroy graduated from Tuscarawas Valley High School in 1967 and was a Vietnam veteran serving as sergeant in the U.S Army. Leroy spent his career in agriculture and focused his trade as a skilled farrier and blacksmith. His passion was harness racehorses, where he bred, raised and raced harness horses over a span of 30 years. In 1986 he authored "Limbs of the Equine" which is still being circulated across academia and horse people globally. Outside of his career, he spent countless hours as leader and volunteer in various national and local horse associations. Preceded in death by his son, Douglas Amos; father-in-law, William Troutman; brother-in-law, Stephen Troutman. Survived by his wife of 43 years, Nancy (Troutman) Amos; three sons, Tyler (Lisa) Amos of Stow, Travis (Brandi) Amos of Navarre, Seth Amos of Navarre; grandchildren, Collin Lang and Kate Amos, Cohen and Niall Amos; one sister, Barb (Rudy) Horvat of Bay City, MI; his mother-in-law, Vivian Troutman; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Dianna and Doug O'Meara; several nieces and nephews; best friend, John Fabynick. Continuing Leroy's giving spirit he was an eye and tissue donor. Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at 10:00 am in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on South Cleveland Ave. with Pastor Barbara Ross officiating. Interment in Ft. Laurens Cemetery, Bolivar. Friends may call Tuesday from 5-8 pm. Memorial donations may be made to Crossroads Hospice.
