Kenneth D. Smith
Age 79, of East Canton, passed away Thursday July 15 2010 in his home surrounded by his family. He was born February 1, 1931 in Canton to the late Ernest and Marvel (Eakin) Smith. Kenneth was a life resident of East Canton and a 1949 graduate of East Canton High School. He was an Army Korean War Veteran. Kenneth retired in 1993 from Mapleton Development in Minerva after 44 years of service and had previously served as a patrol officer for the Village of East Canton for many years. He was a member of Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church, Lowell D. Oberly American Legion Post #667 and the VFW. Kenneth was an avid East Canton High School supporter and sports fan. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three brothers, Stanley, Wilbur and Neal Smith; two sisters, Edith Clark and Barbara Moore. He is survived by his wife, Vivian A. (Selway) to whom he was married 59 years; five children and their spouses, Deborah and Anthony Salvino of East Canton, Vicki Jacobsen and Jack Smith of East Canton, Cynthia and Scott Snyder of St. Mary's, WV, Kenneth Jr. and Gina Smith of Akron, Sherri and Robert Dugan of Canton; 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; one sister, Jacqulyn Bowman of Canton; best friends, Ray and Betty Barwick of East Canton. The family would like to thank Mercy Hospice and Home Health Care, Dr. Pogorelec and his nurse, Debbie for their tender care and special attention throughout Ken's care. Funeral services will be Monday July 19, 2010 at 1:00pm in the Sanders Funeral Home in East Canton with Pastor David Lathrop officiating. Interment in Warstler Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday 5-8pm. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Mercy Hospice, Mercy Home Health Care or Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church.
