Katherine M. "Kate" Douglas
Katherine M. "Kate" Douglas, age 87, of East Canton, passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2008 in Aultman Hospital. She was born May 3, 1921 in East Canton to the late Ralph and Mabel (Lotz) Werley. Kate was a life resident of the East Canton area and a 1939 graduate of East Canton High School. She was the co-owner/operator, with her husband Leo, of Douglas Flowers for 51 years; prior to which she was a beautician and had worked as a cook at East Canton Elementary. Kate was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ where she had been active in the choir, Mary Martha Circle and the Mary and Joseph Sunday School Class. She was a member of the Louisville Garden Club, East Canton Civic Club and several card clubs. Kate was honored as the first East Canton Citizen of the Year and recognized by the Village of East Canton for her civic beautification programs. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one brother and sister-in-law, Emerson R. and Alice Werley; one sister, Pauline "Polly" Bole. She is survived by her husband, Charles Leo Douglas to whom she was married 66 years; one daughter and son-in-law, Jewell and Lynn Griffing of Louisville; one son and daughter-in-law, Rob and Shirley Douglas of Jackson Twp; three grandchildren and their spouses, Jill and Tim Sweet of Valencia, PA, David and Betsy Griffing of N. Canton, Michael Douglas of Jackson Twp.; five great grandchildren, Meredith, Erin, Adam, Drew and Lindsay; one brother, Robert Werley of East Canton; one brother-in-law, Richard Bole of East Canton; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Saturday November 15, 2008 at 11:00am in St. Paul's United Church of Christ with Rev. James Painting officiating. Interment in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Friends may call Friday 5-8pm in the Myers-Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home in East Canton and one hour before services at the church on Saturday (10-11am).
