June L. Swallen, age 91, of East Canton died Monday evening in Aultman Hospital following a brief illness. Daughter of the late Homer and Lorena (Davis) Gugelman. She was a life resident of the Paris and East Canton areas. A 1932 graduate of Louisville High School and a graduate of Kent State University. June retired as an educator from Minerva Local Schools in 1972 after 35 years of service. Member of Christ Memorial Church, Robertsville, where she had attended the Willing Workers Sunday School Class and had served as a former choir director. June very much enjoyed her family, friends and reading biographies, westerns and southern history. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Gerald J. Swallen in 1994 and one nephew. Survived by one step-daughter, Zolita Smith of Massillon; four step-grandchildren, six step-great grandchildren, two step-great great grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, George and Mary Gugelman of Louisville; one sister and brother-in-law, Vera and Dwight Ashbaugh of Mansfield; three nephews and three nieces. Funeral services will be Thursday at 11:00 am in Christ Memorial Church, Robertsville, with Rev. Jeffrey Lord officiating. Interment in Robertsville Cemetery. Friends may call one hour before services at the church (10:00-11:00am).
