Joseph Munger
age 95, left this plane on Wednesday May 3, 2017 with his daughter at his side. Born to Stefan and Barbara Munger, Joe was married to the late Mary Modean Flores Munger for 56 years and was preceded in death by brothers Paul, Steve, John, Nick, sisters Barbara Munger, Katherine Modich, Mary Harold, Anna Nieto, Rose Eslich and infant siblings.
At the age of 14, Joe shipped out to the Northwest with the Civilian Conservation Corp to fight fires and plant trees in damaged areas. He was an Army veteran having served in World War II. Joe was a member of Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church and the Croatian Fraternal Union. Always an avid hunter, he enjoyed spending time outdoors up to his final days. He and his wife were prolific gardeners and visitors rarely left their home without a cache of fresh or home canned vegetables. His penchant for story telling was legendary; all he needed was a willing listener.
Joe is survived by his daughter, Hattie DeWalt, his beloved grandson, Joe DeWalt and his wife Shanna. Funeral services will be Saturday May 6, 2017 at 11:00am in Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church in East Canton, with Pastor Tim Monteith officiating. Friends will be received one hour before services on Saturday at the church (10-11am). Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church, The Stark County Humane Society or the charity of your choice.
