Jolene D. McWhorter
Age 77, of East Sparta passed away Saturday May 28, 2011 in her home following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born January 7, 1934 in Cambridge, OH to the late Clarence and Dortha (Johnson) Barclay. Jolene was an East Sparta resident most of her life and a1952 graduate of Canton South High School. All of her life Jolene excelled as a homemaker; her expertise was managing a household with cooking and baking being her strong attributes. When her children were growing up, she cooked at Elkhorn Christian Valley Service Camp for many seasons. Jolene was a baptized member of Howenstine Christian Church for the past 50 years. She was an avid sailor and was a member of the Atwood Yacht Club and the Sailing Buckeyes Yacht Club. She served as the Social Chairperson for the AYC Cruising Fleet and the Sailing Buckeyes Yacht Club for many years throughout her sailing career. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one sister, Roberta Williams. She is survived by her husband, James L. McWhorter to whom she was married 58 years; two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Pam McWhorter of North Industry, William and Sandi McWhorter of East Sparta; two daughters and sons-in-law, Doralee and Patrick Himes of East Sparta, Carrie and Joe Kostic of Magnolia; five grandchildren, Tim, David, Jason, Sam and Mallory; eight great-grandchildren, Kasi, Mackenzie, Kayla, Morgan, Anna, Mason, Cole and Cody; five brothers and one sister; numerous nieces and nephews. Jolene would like to thank the Aultman Hospital doctors, nurses and staff for her excellent care and covering her 59 days in the hospital over the course of her illness. A special thank you goes to the doctors, nurses and staff at Morning Star at Aultman Cancer Center for their great care during her stressful chemotherapy sessions. She is grateful for the home care she received from Aultman Home Care, Aultman Hospice, Pentec Health and A.S.A.P. Homecare Inc which allowed her to be home for the final stage of her life. Funeral services will be Wednesday June 1, 2011 at 10:00am in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home with Chris Davis officiating. Interment in Melscheimer Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday 5-8pm.
