John R. Penland

Age 81, of Canton entered the loving arms of his Lord and Savior on Monday, April 25, 2022 due to injuries sustained from an accident at his home. Born February 13, 1941 in Young Harris, GA to the late Robert and Euna (Nichols) Penland. He was a Canton area resident most of his life and retired from the Timken Company with 35 years of service. John was a member of the Canton Baptist Temple and the NRA. He loved hunting, sprint car racing and his grandchildren and great grandchildren meant the world to him. Preceded in death by a great grandson, Lucas Rhoades; three brothers, Fred, Rex and Roland Penland; one sister, Susan Penland. He is survived by a daughter, Jennifer (Scott) Strebel; a son, James (Therese) Penland; four grandchildren, Steven (Mandy) Penland, Kyle Phillabaum, Jamie (Nathan) Rhoades, Joshua Penland (Alexis Simpson); 10 great grandchildren; one brother, Randal (Barbara) Penland; three sisters, Marie Tabellion, Patricia Tyler, Paula Penland; numerous nieces and nephews; a special friend that John referred to as a brother, Carl (Linda) Parsons. Dad, we will miss you and will forever miss your presence in turn four. Funeral services will be Friday, April 29, 2022 at 12:00 pm in the Canton Baptist Temple, Henniger Ministry Center, 515 Whipple Ave NW, Canton, OH 44708. Interment in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Friends may call two hours prior to the service on Friday at the church from 10:00 – 12:00 pm.
