John A. Erbland
John A. Erbland, age 79, of Canton, passed away Monday, May 26, 2008 in Meadow Wind Health Care. He was born October 2, 1928 in Canton to the late Heinz and Helen (Uebing) Erbland. John was a Canton area resident most of his life where he had attended McKinley High School and played for the legendary Bup Rearick and was a member of the Rearick Men. He retired from Ohio Bell in 1984 after 25 years of service, after which, he moved to North Myrtle Beach, SC. where he was Resident Manager of the Palmwood Villas for 11 years. John was a former member of the Perry High School Booster Club, the Panthers Den and served as past president for the Perry Heights Baseball Association. He was an Army veteran and a longtime member of the Massillon BPOE. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Helen Mae Erbland. He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Wendy and Russell Jones of Kershaw, SC, Terri and John Thurmond of Massillon, Nancy and Alan Butts of East Sparta; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Hank Cook of Victorville, CA, Duke and Pam Erbland of Myrtle Beach, SC; 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be Friday May 30, 2008 at 10:00am in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home with Pastor John Stallings officiating. Interment in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday 6-8pm. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Meadow Wind Activity Fund at 300 23rd St NE, Massillon, OH 44646.
