John D. "Smokey" Coker Sr.
Age 88, of Canton died Sunday, December 4, 2011 in Aultman Hospital following a brief illness. Born November 7, 1923 in Murphy, NC. to the late Doyle and Pinky (Coleman) Coker. He was a Canton resident since 1950 and retired from Canton Drop Forge in 1985 after 35 years of service. John was a member of Canton Baptist Temple, Canton South AARP and Canton Drop Forge Retirees. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his wife, Joan Coker in 2003 and an infant son, John D. Coker Jr. Survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Dean Newell of North Carolina, Penny and Dennis Sears of Massachusetts; nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one sister, Rebecca Boyd of Canton; one brother, Donald Coker of Hayesville, NC; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Thursday Dec. 8, 2011 at 10:00 am in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on South Cleveland Ave. with Rev. Delaney Young officiating. Interment in Ft. Laurens Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 6-8pm.
