John Byelene
John Byelene, age 85, of Canton, passed away Friday January 30, 2009 in the Canton Regency following an extended illness. He was born July 16, 1923 in Lyndora, PA. to the late Matthew and Mary (Sedjo) Byelene. John was a WWII Navy veteran where he served on the USS Alabama. He was a Massillon area resident most of his life and was a 1942 graduate of Massillon Washington High School. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business from Miami University of Ohio and a Bachelor of Science in Education from Kent State University. John retired from Canton Local Schools as an educator in 1985 after 33 years of service. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church of Massillon. John was an accomplished athlete having received many trophies for handball, baseball and bowling where he achieved a 300 game. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by, two sisters, Mary Paulus and Margaret Burkett; three brothers, Daniel, Andrew and Michael Byelene. He is survived by his wife, Betty Byelene to whom he was married 43 years; four step-children, Barbara Schader of Nipomo, CA, Robert Oster of Copley, OH, William Oster of New Jersey, Richard Oster of Albuquerque, NM; one sister, Betty Byelene of Hunting Beach, CA; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Monday February 2, 2009 at 3:00pm in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on S. Cleveland Ave. with John Telloni officiating.
