John E. Back

Age 104, of Canton passed away Monday, December 6th, 2021 in the Gables of Canton. He was born February 26, 1917 in Duquesne, Pennsylvania to the late Harry and Ellen Back. John served in the United States Army overseas during World War II. He retired from Ashland Oil Refinery in 1980 after 41 years of service. He was a long-time member of the Canton McKinley Eagles and the Dr. Roach Outdoor League. John loved to golf, bowl, and play cards. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, playing on his computer, and eating sweets. He traveled often, rode a motorcycle for many years, and was the captain on many family boat trips. His family and friends will miss his ornery sense of humor and quick wit. He is preceded in death by his wife of 76 years, Ruth Back; a sister, Elsie Canter; and daughter-in-law, Kathi Back. John is survived by two sons, Robert (Barbara) Back and John Back; four grandchildren, Jamie (Kirk) Askren, Vicki Back, John (Renee) Back and Jessica (Dylan) Harig; 10 great grandchildren.
