August 19, 1920 — October 28, 2007

Jay H. Young Sr.
Jay H. Young Sr., age 87, departed from this life Sunday October 28, 2007. Jay was a life resident of East Sparta and was proud that he was a descendant of the founding family in Pike Township. He was a 1938 graduate of Canton Township High School. He served during WWII in the Army Air Corps. Jay was the sole owner/operator of Jay H. Young Excavating for more than 60 years. He took great pride and pleasure in his work. His moral and business ethics were impeccable. He supported many charities in secret and signed his name only as "a friend". Many people were recipients of his generous spirit, whether in the form of a food basket, monetary donation or snow removal. He was always willing to give friends and strangers alike a helping hand. He gave all anonymously and with love, never asking for anything in return. He had joy in knowing he could make a difference. He believed God was love and God's first judgment day question will be, "how have you loved?" Love cannot save us from death but it can fulfill life's purpose. He and his wife, Betty took over 40 foster children into their home, and took care of many people throughout their lives and deaths. Jay was born August 19, 1920 in Canton, OH, to the late Francis and Daisy (Cameron) Young. He is also preceded in death by two sisters, Pearl Shaffer and Dorothy White; two brothers, Henry and Francie Young; his first wife, Betty (Boyce) in 1996 to whom he was married 50 years. He is survived by his wife, Mary Magdalene Wetter-Young; son and daughter-in-law, Jay H. "Chip" and Sue Young Jr.; grandson, Benjamin Jay Young; Son, Joy H. "Butch" Young; Daughter, Karen L. Young; grandchildren, Joshua (Jennifer) Fickeisen, Brianna Fickeisen; great grandson, Carter; one brother, Walter Young; step-children, Nancy (Dave) Stark, Debra (Paul) Baughman, Steven (Cheryl) Wetter, Keith (Laurie) Wetter; seven step-grandchildren and one step-great grandson. Jay was an excellent carpenter and helped many people build their homes. He was an avid fisherman and best known for his sense of humor, smile and kind word for all. He was a member of McKinley Lodge #431 F&AM and the Scottish Rite Valley of Canton. Jay requested no flowers or calling hours, memorial donations may be made in his name to the charity of your choice.
