James K. Tressel 6/5/40-7/7/22
Mr. James “Jim” Tressel passed from this earth and into the waiting arms of his Lord and Savior on July 7, 2022. He is survived by the absolute love of his life, Nancy Tressel. Their love for each other was nothing short of legendary. Even in his final days, as his health was failing, they could be seen “smooching” and holding hands like teenagers. Their complete and total dedication to each other set an example for everyone in the Tressel family and beyond. He is survived by a sister Margie (Bill) Groves. Jim is also survived by his children, Troy (Carol) Tressel, Tim (Sue) Tressel and Carla (Greg) Ford; his grandchildren, Nickolas Tressel, Tara (Austin) Tressel, Seb (Emily) Tressel, Lydia (Grant) Bowling, Leah (Antonio) Salinas, Natalie (Chandler) Barense, Zac (Carolyn) Ford, and Holly Ford.
Jim graduated from Canton South High School where he met and fell in love with Nancy Stanley. Jim and Nancy were married in 1961. Jim began his career as a payroll clerk at Timken Corporation and continued with Timken until he retired as a Production Manager at the New Philadelphia location in 1993 after 30 years of service. While still working full time at Timken, Jim and Nancy operated their 135-acre farm with commitment and perseverance. After his retirement from Timken, Jim and Nancy became chicken farmers for Case Farms, building a state-of-the-art chicken house on the farm. Like everything else in his life, Jim ran that chicken house with absolute attention to detail, passion, dedication and fortitude. He and Nancy won countless awards for their success in raising bountiful flocks for Case Farms. Jim was very involved in the Stark County Farm Bureau and proudly served on the Stark County Fair Board, holding the office of President for several years. Jim was a very proud farmer and loved his farming community and friends.
Jim loved his family and friends with uncommon kindness, generosity and interest. He was an animated storyteller and enjoyed the chance to share a laugh with anyone. His keen wit and friendly nature immediately endeared him to everyone he met. Jim was a dedicated and faithful Christian who was extremely involved at Greenwood Christian Church in many leadership positions. He and Nancy found another church home when they wintered in Bonita Springs, Florida, and again became very active at Anchor Christian Church there. His family wishes to thank all their dear friends for their kindness and support during his long battle with heart failure. In addition, a heartfelt thanks to the amazing staff at Walnut Hills Retirement community and Truman House hospice.
