James L. Harsh

James L. Harsh age 95 of East Canton passed away peacefully on July 16, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was born in Louisville Ohio on March 28, 1929, to the late Lester and Ida (Ritschard) Harsh.

James was a lifelong resident of the Stark Co community. He graduated from Louisville High School. James was a United States Army veteran serving with distinction and honor during the Korean War.

James retired from the AKRO Rubber Company working as a punch press operator. After retirement, he worked as a custodian at Foltz Community Center. James was a member of the East Canton Church of God and was a member of the American Legion Post #667. 

To know James, you knew one thing: he is a diehard car enthusiast, always working on cars and trying to fix anything the family needed. He also enjoyed fishing and gardening.

James is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Martha L Harsh; brother, Lionel “Bud” Harsh; sisters, Ann Harsh, Lois Elliott, Joy Pike and son in law, Sam Sherrard.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son, James L. (Kathy) Harsh Jr; daughters Pamela (Mike) Marzec, Faye Sherrard and Theresa Weekly; step-daughter Betty Ann Barr; brother, Gene Harsh; two sisters, Lila Snyder and Tina Herstine; 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in James’s honor to either the American Legion Post #667 at 224 S Wood St N, East Canton, OH 44730 or Akron Children's Hospital at Akron Children's Foundation, One Perkins Square, Akron, OH 44308. 

A graveside service with army military honors will be held on Friday, July 19, 2024, at 11:00 am at Sunset Hill Memory Garden where he will be laid to rest.
