Henry G. Schaeffer, Sr.
Age 91, of East Canton went to be with the Lord Thursday, June 30, 2011 in Aultman Hospital following an extended illness. He was born September 20, 1919 in Harrisburg, PA. to the late John and Elizabeth Schaeffer. Henry married Theresa in 1943 while serving in the United States Army as a Captain during WWII. Upon finishing his time in the army, Henry and Theresa moved to East Canton in 1946. He was a founding charter member and former chief of the Canton Township Fire Department #4. Henry retired from St. Regis Paper Company in 1978 after 23 years of service. He was a life member of Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church and former member of the Atwood Lake Yacht Club. Henry loved his family, serving his community, and enjoyed antique fire engines, and spending time outdoors mowing. In 1987, Henry and his wife, Theresa moved to the farm to live with his son David and his wife Lynn. Henry was preceded in death by one sister, Elizabeth Paine. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Theresa A. Schaeffer; three sons and daughters-in-law, Henry "Hank" Jr. and Paula Schaeffer of East Canton, Bill Schaeffer of Marion, OH., David and Lynn Schaeffer of East Canton; four grandchildren and spouses, Todd and Jennifer Schaeffer, Lori and David Samerdak, David and Jennifer Schaeffer, Carolyn and Benjamin Seibert; five great grandchildren, Benjamin, Noah, Jacob, Madelyn and Eden. Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at 10:30 am in Mt Tabor United Methodist Church, 108 E. Walnut, East Canton, OH. 44730 with Rev. Clark E. Kandel II officiating. Interment in Robertsville Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 5-8 pm in the Sanders Funeral Home in East Canton, where there will be "The Last Alarm" service by the Stark County Firefighter's Association at 7:45 pm. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 am. Memorial donations may be made to Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church.
